大貫映子 (Teruko Onuki) was the first Japanese to swim across the English Channel. She completed two swims across the English Channel, one on 31 July 1982 in 9 hours 32 minutes and one on 31 August 1983 in 11 hours 15 minutes. She founded and manages the Uminchu Club from her Tokyo headquarters.
