noun - An alpha dog (or an alpha male or alpha female or alpha swimmer) is an aggressive, fast open water swimmer who starts at the front of the pack and maintains a fast pace, especially in the start of an open water swimming competition. They also tend to initiate physicality in a pack or within a race, either unintentionally or intentionally.
