The up-and-coming swimmer, who trains under coach Ronald Claes at Swim Ireland’s Limerick High Performance Centre, was the first Irish open water swimmer to race in an open water swimming event for Ireland at a World Championships.
At the 2011 World Swimming Championships in Shanghai, China, he place 8th out of 51 swimmers in the 5K event in 56 minutes and 28 seconds, only 11 seconds behind winner Thomas Lurz of Germany. He placed third at the 2012 European Open Water Swimming Cup in Eilat, Israel.
He represented Ireland in the 2012 FINA Olympic 10km Marathon Swimming Qualifier in Setubal Bay, Portugal and is the world record holder at the Sandycove Island Challenge in Kinsale, Ireland.
