Dave Kelsheimer is the head coach of Team Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California. He is an age-group and elite swimming coach who has guided athletes to success in Australia, the Cayman Islands and America. Coach Dave has enjoyed a successful international coaching career having coached swimmers at World Championships, Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and Pan American Games.
Kelsheimer has overseen the successful Stingray Swim Club and was the Cayman Islands national swim coach and is now the head coach of Team Santa Monica in Southern California.
Coach Kelsheimer’s resume touts leading swimmers to National and World Championship successes as well as several bids for Olympic medals. His track record also includes achievements during a four and half year stint in Australia where open water swims can be counted amongst his athletes successes as well as recognition for leading his swim club to National and State championships, finally culminating in Gold Medal recognition for the club. In addition to these achievements, two of Kelsheimer’s former athletes are now star performers at University of Florida, including triple NCAA winner Shaune Fraser.
With six ‘coach of the year’ awards under his belt, Kelsheimer is a much beloved, but tough taskmaster. In a thank you letter from his previous team’s board of directors they point out the foundation for the Stingray’s success: “[Kelsheimer has] set precedents and standards, hopes and expectations…and has taught us hard work…[is] nothing to be afraid of, the kids are worth it.”
