David passed away 21 April 2007 at the age of 49 while competing in the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in Florida. He was born April 15, 1958 in New Haven. He was a tireless volunteer and organized and ran the Connecticut Swimming Open Water Championship from 2001-2006.
He is the namesake for the annual Dave Parcells MS Fund.
David was an accomplished endurance athlete. He completed the 1989 Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii. David was the first non-professional swimmer to complete the Long Island Swim crossing and is the current record holder as the oldest person to complete a double-crossing of the English Channel. Parcells became the marathon swim director of the St. Vincent's Medical Center Swim Across The Sound, which has raised over US$2 million for cancer.
Parcells graduated from West Haven High School in 1976 and graduated from Providence College in 1980.
He earned his CPA in 1982 and was a Senior Manager with Arthur Andersen, Vice President of Swiss Army Brands and the Chief Financial Officer of Garrity Industries.
