Emily Kunze is an American open water swimmer and aquapreneur who swam for Kenyon College under legendary coach Jim Steen. She is a mother of 3 children, a small business consultant, and a volunteer for Worldreader.

Swimming Career

Kunze started swimming competitively at the age of 5 and a few years later began winter training at the Summit YMCA, New Jersey. She swam 2 seasons for the Kenyon College, where both the Men’s and Women’s team held Division III NCAA consecutive titles. During her last year on the Kenyon team, she was named to the Academic All American National Team and swam on the 400 freestyle relay making a conference record. The Strait of Gibraltar challenge crept into Kunze's life when Mauricio Prieto proposed it in the summer of 2012.

Swim4Good

She founded Swim4Good together with Mauricio Prieto and Susan Moody. Together they produce a blog called OWswimming that focuses on various open water swimming topics and showcases interviews and guest posts with swimmers.

As part of Swim4Good, Kunze, Mauricio Prieto and Susan Moody swam across the Strait of Gibraltar and raised $106.000 for Worldreader, a non-profit organization that brings books to kids in the developing world using mobile technology.
