noun - FINA is the acronym for Fédération Internationale de Natation Amateur, the international governing body of swimming, water polo, diving, synchronized swimming and open water swimming, recognized by the International Olympic Committee for administering international aquatic competitions. It was founded in 1908 and is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland.

FINA sanctions the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix, FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup, FINA Junior Open Water Swimming Championships and the 5 km, 5 km Team Pursuit, 10 km and 25 km races at the FINA World Swimming Championships.

FINA administers two different global open water swimming circuits in addition to the biennial World Swimming Championships held every odd year.
