Ian Emberson of Kauai, Hawaii is one of the early pioneers of endurance sports. He was one of the first people to compete the Hawaiian Ironman. He also successfully crossed the Molokai Channel (Kaiwi Channel) in 1979 with Michael Miller and was among the first swimmers in the Waikiki Roughwater Swim. He is also the founder and co-race director of the Maui Channel Swim that he founded in 1972 and the Maui 'Aumākua 2.4 Mile Swim.
