He also won the silver medal in the men's 1500 m freestyle event at the 1997 European Championships in Seville, Spain, followed by the gold medal two years later in Istanbul. He represented his native country at two consecutive Summer Olympics, both at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics. He also competed in the FINA 10KM Marathon Swimming World Cup where he were ranked 33rd.
