Isaac Papke before his Farallon Islands attempt
Isaac Papke was a member of the Dolphin Club of San Francisco, California who successfully crossed the Catalina Channel from Catalina Island to the California mainland on 30 June 1963 in 12 hours 45 minutes at the age of 41. Papke also made an attempt to be the first swimmer to make the Farallon Islands in November 1965, but was pulled out after 15 hours in the water, retiring when he was 1.12 miles from the California mainland.
