Island of Jersey
The Island of Jersey is located in the English Channel, approximately 14 miles (22 km) from Normandy, France and approximately 100 miles (162 km) south of Great Britain. Jersey is the largest and southernmost of the Channel Islands.
The challenging marathon swimming course is called the Round Jersey Solo, a circumnavigation along scenic terrain ranging from long sandy bays to rugged cliffs. The Round Jersey Solo is approximately 43.5 miles (70 km) of coastline and is typically attempted in July or August.
The first circumnavigation swim successfully completed in 1969; the fastest circumnavigation swim was done by Julie Galloway in 9 hours 32 minutes and 45 seconds. Water temperature is 64ºF (17.7ºC) and the swim is tidal assisted if timed right.
