Javier Gutierrez is an international pool swimmer and accomplished marathon from Mexico who is currently living in Marina del Rey, California and coached by Gerry Rodrigues. He successfully completed the English Channel two times: in September 2011 in 9 hours 40 minutes and in August 1999 in 8 hours 16 minutes, both certified by the Channel Swimming Association. Each of his successful English Channel crossing was preceded by failures: he was pulled out of the English Channel in 1998 and 2010. Successful solo swims across the English Channel (20 August 1999 in 8 hours 16 minutes and 23 September 2011 in 9 hours 40 minutes). He also represented Mexico in multiple international meetings in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle between 1982 and 1997.
