Jimi Flowers was the 1990 recipient of the Glen S. Hummer Award recipient, an award given to the individual who makes the greatest contribution to the open water swimming in the United States.

As the United States Swimming Staff member and Staff Liaison to the Open Water Swimming Committee, He far exceeded his assign duties and was eager to assist the volunteers in the furtherance of the Open Water Swimming Goals and Objectives. He often explained the Open Water position to other USS Staff members. He assisted greatly in establishing an excellent working relationship between the Open Water Meet Directors and the USS National Staff. He was instrumental in establishing procedures that expedited the uniforming and travel of the USA Swimming National Teams.
