English Channel

Joelle Beard set a goal in 2010 to swim the English Channel. She trained in a lake in Annecy, France, and in Willard Bay and Bear Lake in Utah. On 3 September 2012, Beard successfully swam from England to France in 12 hours 17 minutes under the governance of the Channel Swimming Association and escort of Reg Brickell, Jr. in the Viking Princess. She achieved her goal, and also became the first woman from the state of Utah to swim the English Channel.

Bear Lake

On 27 September 2011, Joelle became the first person to swim a double crossing (width) of Bear Lake. She swam it as her English Channel qualifier and swam it in a time of 6 hours and 30 minutes.
