John Humenik of New York is an airline pilot and open water swimmer who is a member of Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers, often referred to as the CIBBOWS. Among a number of marathon swims completed, John competed in the 1st annual In Search of Memphre swim in September of 2011. A very fast and graceful swimmer, John won Stage 4 and Stage 5 of the inaugural 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim in New York. The stages were, respectively, 15.2-miles from the Newburgh Beacon Bridge to the Bear Mountain Bridge (tied for first place with Rondi Davis), and 19.8-miles from the Bear Mountain Bridge to the Tappan Zee Bridge. John swam NYC Swim's 17.5 mile Ederle Swim in the fall of 2011, and placed 6th in MIMS 2012. While John is a competent and serious swimmer, he has been known to knit cupcake hats for his relay team members, as he did for his winning 2-person MIMS 2011 relay with Janet Harris.
