Jonathan Ezer was an 18-year-old local swimmer from Oahu who successfully crossed the Moloka'i Channel in 1974. He later became the first person to attempt a solo swim across the Kaieiewaho Channel, 72 miles from Oahu to Kauai but never succeeded, a feat that has yet to be accomplished.
