Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is a freshwater loch in Scotland and is 24 miles long with an average depth of 37 meters (121 ft) and a maximum depth of 190 meters (620 ft). Of all the lakes in Great Britain, it is the largest by surface area and the second largest (after Loch Ness) by water volume.

Loch Lomond contains many islands, including Inchmurrin, the largest fresh-water island in the British Isles, although the lake itself is smaller than many Irish loughs. Loch Lomond is a popular leisure destination and is site to many open water swims.

According to the British Long Distance Swimming Association (BLDSA), there has only been 46 successful attempts recorded by 38 solo swimmers across Loch Lomond since 1959.
