On 4th December 2013 Luke Birch and Jamie Sparks, both aged 21, set off from La Gomera in the Canaries to break the world record for the youngest team to row the Atlantic Ocean. Teams row more than 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic. Rowers head west from San Sebastiean in La Gomera (28ºN 18ºW) to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour, Antigua (17ºN 61ºW). Once they leave the safety of the harbour they’ll be on their own, on the vast ocean and at the mercy of the elements, until the race comes into its final stretch.
