Mark Lambert was a pool and open water swimmer at Hinsdale, Illinois, coached by the Don Watson, won the 6-mile Sea of Galilee swim in 1970. The holder of national high school pool records was a Face In The Crowd in Sports Illustrated.

Pool Swimming Career

He finished second behind Mark Spitz in the 1970 A.A.U. National Swimming Championships in the 200m freestyle and was a member of a world record setting 800m freestyle relay in Tokyo, Japan. He was a member of the second-place relay at the 1970 A.A.U. National Championships in Cincinnati with Gary Ferraro, John Kinsella and Bob Nieman with a time of 6:49.1 At the 1970 A.A.U. Long Course National Championships in Los Angeles, Lambert, John Kinsella, John Murphy and Ray McCullough finished second to Phillips 66 – Long Beach with a time of 7:53.5 in the 800m freestyle relay.

In 1969 at a high school dual swim meet in Evanston, Illinois, he was a member of the 800 freestyle relay with Gary Ferraro, John Kinsella and Phil Dodson with a time that was third among college teams.
