Coach Mel Tantrum
Mel Tantrum is the Head Coach at the University of Western Australia and coach of FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup Hong Kong winner, Rhys Mainstone.

Coach Tantrum was appointed Head Coach of the UWA Uniswim program at the University of Western Australia. This position involves coaching the National Age and Open Squads and playing a significant role in the development of pathways for high performance swimming.

Her previous position was Head Coach of West Coast Swimming Club. Coach Tantrum started her affiliation with Grant Stoelwinder and West Coast in 1998. At that time, West Coast was in the B-grade Pennant competition in Western Australia and had 3 swimmers competing at the National Championships. A decade later, Mel completed her Gold Licence Coaching Accreditation and was appointed Head Age Group Coach for the 2007 Australian Age Championships.

Under her leadership and with support from the team of West Coast coaches, West Coast won Champion Club at the 2007 Australian Age Championships. West Coast won the A Grade Premiership competition for 9 consecutive years from 2001 to 2009. She is a Life Member of West Coast Swimming Club.

In 2008, Coach Tantrum coached Katrina Porter to two World Records and a Gold Medal as well as finalist Jeremy McClure at the Beijing Paralympic Games. She also assisted Tommaso D’Orsonga’s selection on to the Australian Team for the 2009 FINA World Championships Team.
