Santa Barbara Channel Islands
Mike Bewley works with Captain Bob Andrieux as the First Mate of a channel swimmer's escort boat called the Tuna Thumper, a 42-foot dual-engine vessel moored out of Ventura Harbor in California, USA. Bewley helps support and guide channel swimmers in Santa Barbara Channel solo crossings; together with Captain Bob, they have has never had a swimmer enter the water and not finish a swim.

The Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association (SBCSA) supports and sanctions open water swims to, from, and between 7 of the 8 Channel Islands in the Santa Barbara Channel, off the coast of Southern California, USA.

The 8th Channel Island, Santa Catalina Island has a separate governing body, the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation.
