Open Water Swimming

Monterey Bay has been the site of several solo marathon swims including Cindy Cleveland who became the first - and still only - open water swimmer to cross Monterey Bay without a wetsuit in 15 hours 21 minutes. Patti Bauernfeind attempted the same crossing twice but was defeated by an onslaught of jellyfish. Bruckner Chase completed a 28-mile adventure swim (with a wetsuit) in 2010. The Night Train Swimmers crossed the bay on its way during the SF to SB Relay in 2012.
