Nicholas Vargas is an American pool and open water swimmer from Ventura, California who set the channel crossing from
Anacapa Island to the coast of California at the age of 17 when he swam 12.4 miles (20 km) in 4 hours 58 minutes to break
Nicholas Caine's 5 hour 3 minute effort in 2008. He also placed 13th at the 2012
USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships 5 km in Florida and won the Naples Island 3-mile swim in Long Beach, California.
