The US$50,000 Pepsi Challenge Marathon Swim was a professional marathon swim from Niagara-on-the-Falls in the United States to Toronto, Canada held in August 1978.

The 31.5-mile (50.7 km) race was won by John Kinsella, known as The Machine, who was coached by Don Watson in 13 hours 49 minutes. He won US$25,000 for his victory. The race started at 2 am. Claudio Plit of Argentina was second in 15 hours 1 minute, Raul Villagomez of Mexico was third (15:09), Magdy Mandour of Egypt was fourth (15:19) and Bill Heiss of USA was fifth (15:57), the only finishers of the 9-person race.
