adjective - Port is the side of a boat that is on the left when one is facing forward. As opposed to the Aft (at, near, or toward the stern or rear part of a boat, starboard (side of a ship that is on the right when one is facing forward), Port (side of the boat that is on the left when one is facing forward), Bow (front part of a boat).

At night, the port side of a vessel is indicated with a red navigation light and the starboard side with a green one.
The swimmer was being fed on the aft of the escort boat.
