noun - A rectangular buoy is a distinctively marked or colored float in a rectangular shape, usually square, anchored in open bodies of water to mark the course for open water swimmers or triathletes. Turn buoys are directional in nature and must be passed on a specific side of the body as race instructions dictate.

There are four rectangular buoys throughout the race course that are directional only.
