noun - Remora is a slang term for a swimmer who leaves right behind another swimmer in an interval training set in a pool.

noun - Remora is also a slang term that refers to an open water swimmer or triathlete who drafts very closely to another open water swimmer or triathlete throughout the entire swim. A remora is often drafting right off the hip or lower leg, and shifts their position entirely dependent on the navigational course of the lead swimmer.

noun - A remora is also a family of ray-finned fishes, sometimes called suckerfishes. Their distinctive first dorsal fins take the form of a modified oval sucker-like organ with slat-like structures that open and close to create suction and take a firm hold against the skin of larger marine animals including sharks and whales. By sliding backward, the remora can increase the suction or it can release itself by swimming forward.
