The San Alfonso del Mar Resort pool is the world's largest pool on the coast of Algarrobo, Chile. The pool measures 1,013 meters (3,323 feet) in length, covers an area of eight hectares (20 acres), contains 250,000 cubic meters of water, is deep (35 meters or 115 feet) and is navigable in small boats.

The enormous pool, created by Crystal Lagoons, is larger than 20 Olympic-size pools, holds 66 million gallons of water, and costs a 2 million pounds annually to operate. It pulls water directly in from the sea using a computer-controlled suction and filtration system.

World Record

Mauro Giaconia, an Italian marathon swimmer from Palermo, swam 62 miles in 24 hours in the pool.
