San Clemente Island is part of the Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California in the United States. It is 54.4 miles (47.3 nm or 87.5 km) to Huntington Beach.

Marathon Swims

The Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association (SBCSA) supports and sanctions open water swims in this channel and the other 7 of the 8 Channel Islands. This swim has been conquered twic, by a 6-man relay in 2002 called Swim for Hope in 33 hours 8 minutes and by the HTC Relay with Tina Neill (captain), Forrest Nelson, Emily Evans, Steve Lowe, Kent Nicholas, and Mike Mitchell in 25 hours 48 minutes on 25 July 2012.

Tina Neill became the first person to swim from San Clemente Island to the California mainland between 4-6 September 2012 when she took 28 hours 41 minutes to swim the 53.95 miles (86.6 km) channel.

Julian Rusinek Scholarship

The Julian Rusinek Scholarship, funded by American open water swimmer Julian Rusinek, helps underwrite the costs of channel swim attempts by deserving American marathon swimmers across and between the San Miguel Island, Santa Rosa Island, Santa Cruz Island, Anacapa Island, San Nicolas Island, Santa Barbara Island, and San Clemente Island.
