Scott Richards
Scott "The Yesdoc" Richards, M.D. is a member of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming and a lifetime member of the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation. Dr. Richards resides in San Elijo Hills, California and is the father of two.

Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming

On 9 July 2007, Dr. Richards became the 18th person in history to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming when he swam the English Channel in 13 hours 20 minutes. Prior to the English Channel, he completed the 28.5 mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim on 24 June 2006 and on 20 September 2006 swam the Catalina Channel in just over 10 hours.

At the time he established the record for the shortest period of time to swim the Triple Crown, completing all 3 swims in just 12 months and 17 days. He has since gone on to add the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim (24 miles) on 23 April 2011 in 10 hours and 35 minutes.

Along with his brother, Dan Richards (whom Scott coached and mentored), they are the only siblings in history of have completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.

Biography

A 1977 Cum Laude graduate of Pine Crest School, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, he was an All-State high school swimmer for four years, he holds a BA in Psychology from Marshall University (Summa Cum Laude, class of 1982) earning All Southern Conference swimming status his senior year. Medical School training at Temple University (1986) was followed with a residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Mood and Eating Disorders, both done at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He served in the US Air Force as a staff Psychiatrist from 1990-1992 and currently practices Psychiatry with specialty in Eating Disorders for the Kaiser Permanente Medical Group in Vista, California.
