noun - Sharks (superorder Selachimorpha) are a type of fish with a full cartilaginous skeleton and a highly streamlined body. The earliest known sharks date from more than 420 million years ago. Different types of sharks include the Great white shark, bull shark, hammerhead shark, and oceanic white tip shark. It is an apex predator.

Synonyms

The Man in the Gray Suit, Mack, Old Toothy, Garbage Can of the Sea and Fish are colloquial terms occasionally used by open water swimmers.

Origin

Some scholars believe shark is derived from the German title schurke, meaning villain.
