noun - Simon is the lead swimmer in the game of Simon Says, a training game played in the open water among open water swimmers that enables improvement and practice of drafting, pacing and positioning. Swimmers can either swim side-by-side or behind one another or slightly drafting off the hips of Simon. Simon is responsible of the pace and direction of the training session. Simon can speed up or slow down while the other swimmers must keep the same pace, must maintain the same position, and swim in the same direction as Simon.

The coach asked Lexie to lead the team of 6 swimmers in a game of Simon Says in the lake for 15 minutes.

[edit] Benefits

During Simon Says, open water swimmers learn how to maintain pacing and positioning and improve their awareness of what other swimmers in their training group are doing. These skills will be directly transferable to open water swimming competitions and triathlons.
