adjective, noun - Skins can refer to swimming in an open body of water without the benefit and protection of any neoprene, a stinger suit, or a wetsuit. In the open water swimming community, a skins swim is performed with a porous swimsuit, goggles, and possibly, a swim cap and ear plugs.

The swimmer was in the skins division.
