noun - Sprint race is a pre-event open water swimming competition on the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup pro circuit or the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix pro circuit where the professional marathon swimmers compete in a short race in order to generate pre-race publicity and public excitement. The sprint race is usually held near or at the finish of the actual marathon race and is generally under 2 km in distance.

The sprint race is held near the finish and offered US$500 to the winner.
