Steve Furniss, world-class swimmer and leading aquatic entrepreneur
Steven "Steve" Furniss is the founder of TYR Sport, one of the world's leading manufacturer of recreational and competitive swimwear, swim caps and goggles for the pool swimming, triathlon, open water swimming, diving and water polo communities. After founding and selling TYR Sport, Steve remains the Executive Vice President of the swimsuit company actively involved in designing and developing new products.

Steve is also a former American Olympic swimmer who won the bronze medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics in the men's 200-meter individual medley. He attended Foothill High School in Santa Ana, California and has a brother Bruce Furniss who also was an Olympic swimming medalist.

He has actively supported the sport of open water swimming and individual open water swimmers including Shelley Taylor-Smith, Fran Crippen, Erica Rose and Steven Munatones.

Athletic Career

Steve is an Olympic medalist and former USA Swimming Co-Captain. He was part of NCAA national championships with USC and won a silver medal in the 1975 World Swimming Championships in the 200m individual medley and gold medals in the 1971 Pan American Games in both the 200m and 400m individual medley and at the 1975 Pan American Games in both the 200m and 400m individual medleys.
