Noun – Survival Dependence is the dependence that open water swimmers and triathletes have when swimming in an open body of water while facing (enduring) the natural elements in a dynamic marine environment either while swimming solo or in a crowded competitive environment during a race. It is one of the five core obstacles that open water swimmers experience along with Solitary Adversity, Physical Exposure, Absence of Perception, and Intensity of Experience.
