noun - Biathlon is any sporting event made up of two disciplines. In the open water swimming community, biathlon usually refers specifically to a run-swim, run-swim-run, swim-run or swim-run-swim combination.

The world's longest swimming and running biathlon is the Big Richard from Newport Beach to Long Beach, 27 miles of soft sand running interspersed between 11 km of ocean swimming.

The Sub 3 Squared Marathon Club is a club where an individual runs a 42 marathon run and a 10 km marathon swim, both under 3 hours, within a calendar year.
