Xtreme Dream

Diana Nyad began her Xtreme Dream in the 1970's when she attempted to swim 103 miles between Cuba and Florida, U.S.A. in 1978, but was pulled out after 42 hours. The Xtreme Dream remained her goal for 4 decades. In her June 2011 attempt, she swam for over 29 hours from Cuba to a point in the Caribbean Sea at N 23 degrees 43.975' W 81 degrees 58.143' or 56.16 miles (48.8 nautical miles or 90.3776 km). She attempted again in 2011 and swam for nearly 37 hours but was defeated by a mass of box jellyfish stings and again in 2012 when she was thwarted by box jellyfish and storms. She finally realized her Xtreme Dream of swimming 103 miles on her fifth attempt from Havana, Cuba to Streamer's Beach, Florida on 2 September 2013 after 52 hours 54 minutes in the Straits of Florida.

The Other Shore

The Other Shore is a film about Nyad's attempts across the Straits of Florida. Created by Wheeler, The Other Shore follows Nyad as she comes out of a 35-year retirement to re-attempt an elusive dream: swimming 103 miles non-stop from Cuba to Florida without the use of a shark cage. Her past and present collide in her obsession with a feat that nobody has ever accomplished. At the edge of The Devil's Triangle, tropical storms, sharks, venomous jellyfish, and one of the strongest ocean currents in the world, all prove to be life-threatening realities. Wheeler's documentary brings Nyad's extraordinary adventure to life as she sets out to prove that will and determination are all you need to make the unimaginable possible.
