Tom Shields, 2012 NCAA Swimmer of the Meet
Tom Shields (born 11 July 1991, in Panama City, Florida) is one of the fastest swimmers in the world and a multiple NCAA Division I champion with the University of California-Berkeley. He is also the world record holder for the Huntington Beach Pier Swim and a former junior lifeguard from Huntington Beach, California.

National Success

• Won the silver medal in the 100-meter butterfly (52.62) at the 2011 World University Games in Shenhzen, China
• Was a member of the United States National Youth Team in 2008 and 2009
• Competed at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, posting a time of 55.77 in the 100 fly

High School Success

• Was named the 2009 National High School Swimmer of the Year
• Set the national high school record in the 200 free (1:33.83) in May, 2009
• Won the CIF Southern Section title in the 200 free four years in a row and the 100 fly two years in a row
• Had high school bests of 1:33.83 in the 200 free, 47.55 in the 100 fly and 43.53 in the 100 free
