WOWSA Awards
The World Open Water Swimming Association sponsors and organizes the WOWSA Awards, held in conjunction with the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. the 2013 WOWSA Awards will be held in Cork, Ireland on 11-13 October. The 2012 WOWSA Awards were held on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California. The 2011 WOWSA Awards and the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame ceremonies were held in the United Nations in New York City, U.S.A. The 2010 WOWSA Awards were held in Long Beach, California, U.S.A. as part of the USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships. The 2008 and 2009 WOWSA Awards were held in Huntington Beach, California.
The WOWSA Awards include the World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year, the World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year, the World Open Water Swimming Performance of the Year, and the World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year.
World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year
- The 2008 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year was race director and swimming advocate Randy Nutt of the USA.
- The 2009 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year was professional marathon swimmer Petar Stoychev of Bulgaria.
- The 2010 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year was United Nations Millennium Development ambassador Marcos Diaz of the Dominican Republic.
- The 2011 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year was swimmer, event organizer, crew member and governing body administrator Jamie Patrick of the USA.
- The 2012 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year was Oceans Seven swimmer Stephen Redmond of Ireland.
World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year
- The 2008 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year was Edith van Dijk of the Netherlands.
- The 2009 World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year was Poliana Okimoto of Brazil.
