Bicentennial Swim

The Bicentennial Swim was an open water swim by Walter Poenisch in 1976 of 122.5 miles (197.1 km) from Marathon in the Florida Keys to Duck Key on the tip of the Florida peninsula. He swam in a red, white and blue colored shark cage. The swim was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as The Longest Distance Ocean Swim and was officially recognized and sanctioned by International Swimming Hall of Fame as the same.
