Heidi George
Hildegard George is a 45-year-old American pool and open water swimmer.
Open Water Swimming Highlights
- On 8 October 2021, she finished 7th in the 10 km Las Vegas Open Water Champions Cup in Lake Las Vegas at the age of 45.
- She competed on the FINA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup pro circuit.
- In 2009 and 2013, she was ranked 6th.
- In the 2010, she was ranked 17th.
- She was the oldest female swimmer by 11 years at the 2012 10K U.S. Olympic Trials where she placed 10th.
- In 2017 she was 10th American at the USA Swimming Open Water Nationals 5K (oldest qualifier for race by 14 years).
- In 1992, she was ranked 12th in the world (at 16 years of age) in the 1500m freestyle.
- She was a 3-time NCAA Division III champion in the 1650y freestyle, holding the NCAA Div III record in the event for 13 years.
- She is a member of the Middlebury College Athletic Hall of Fame, inducted as part of the first full class after inception of the Hall.
- She won the 2015 U.S. Masters Swimming 10K National Championships for women of all age groups by nearly 9 minutes in June of 2015, beating not only all of the women, but also all of the men.
- She is an eight-time FINA Masters World Record holder in the 1500m freestyle.

Pool Swimming Career
George holds the FINA Masters World Record for the 1500m freestyle (Long Course) for the 30-34 age group and the 35-39 age group (set August of 2014, again in May 2015, and again in August 2015), the US Masters American Record for the 40-44 age group (significantly faster than the World Record but not recognized as World Record because it was swum in a USA Swimming meet, not a US Masters Swimming meet), the 1500m freestyle (Short Course) for the 35-39 age group (set October of 2014,again in January 2015, and again in September 2015) and the 40-44 age group (January 2017), and the American Record for the 1000y & 1650y freestyle for the 35-39 age group (set November of 2014), the 1650y freestyle in the 40-44 age group (November 2016), and the 800m freestyle freestyle for the 35-39 age group (set September 2015) and the SCM 800m freestyle for the 40-44 age group (January 2017). She also holds the U.S. Masters Swimming Hour Postal Swim in the 35-39 age group, which is the longest distance done by any female masters swimmer of any age.
