Matthias Kaßner (or Matthias Kassner) is a 54-year-old German open water swimmer.
Open Water Swimming Career
- He achieved the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming in 2015.
- He achieved the Frosted Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming in 2018.
- He has completed five Oceans Seven channels to date.
- He serves as a Marathon Swimming Mentor.
- He finished 8th in the Hallstättersee Ice Swimming Ice Kilometer at the age of 54 on 5 March 2022.
- On 28 August 2020, he completed an unprecedented 30 km swim around Berlin, Germany, the Berlin Köpenick Marathon Swim in 13 hours 7 minutes at the age of 52, starting and finishing on a small beach in a village called Schmöckwitz.
- He completed a 16.3 km crossing of Lake Windermere in England in 6 hours 0 minutes.
- He completed the 14 km Wakenitz Man in 4 hours 20 minutes, 4 hours 22 minutes and 4 hours 24 minutes

- On 5 August 2015, he completed the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon Swim in Switzerland in 10 hours 27 minutes 22 seconds at the age of 44.
- On 6 June 2010, he crossed the 14.4 km Strait of Gibraltar from Spain to Morocco in 4 hours 18 minutes at the age of 42.
- In 2011, he completed a crossing of Lake Windermere in 6 hours 1 minutes.
- In 2012, he completed a 26.4 km crossing of Lake Zurich in Switzerland in 10 hours 27 minutes.
- On 29 August 2013, he crossed the 33.5 km English Channel from England to France in 14 hours 43 minutes at the age of 45 with the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation.
- On 28 June 2014, he completed the 45.9 km (28.5-mile) Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 10 hours 4 minutes 11 seconds at the age of 46.
- On 16 July 2014, he completed the 19 km Beltquerung (Fehmarnbelt Solo Swim from Germany to Denmark) in 7 hours 27 minutes at the age of 46.
- On 20 August 2015, he crossed the 32.3 km Catalina Channel from Santa Catalina Island to the Southern California mainland in 13 hours 59 minutes 31 seconds at the age of 47.
- On 8 August 2016, he completed the 32.4 km Bodenseequerung in 13 hours 38 minutes at the age of 48.
- On 30 August 2017, he crossed the 35 km North Channel from Northern Ireland to Scotland in 14 hours 24 minutes 40 seconds at the age of 49.
- He finished 19th in the 1 km ice kilometer at the 2018 Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere German Open in Wöhrsee, Burghausen, Germany on 5 January 2018 in 17:56.4.
- He finished 23rd in the 200m freestyle at the 2018 Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere German Open in Wöhrsee, Burghausen, Germany on 6 January 2018.
- He finished 14th in the 500m freestyle at the 2018 Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere German Open in Wöhrsee, Burghausen, Germany on 7 January 2018.
- On 18 August 2018, he aborted a 19.5 km crossing of the Tsugaru Channel from Honshu to Hokkaido in northern Japan after 3.5 hours of swimming because he was not feeling well.
- On 27 January 2017, he completed an Ice Mile in Zwembad De Waterdam Edam in 4.27°C water and 4.00°C air in 30:14 in an unheated open air swimming pool to complete the Frosted Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.
- On 19 January 2018, he completed an Ice Mile in Volendam, Netherlands in 3.93°C water and 4.90°C air in 29:12 in an unheated open air swimming pool.
- He completed the Frosted Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming on 27 January 2017.
- He competed in the Ice Kilometer at the 3rd International Ice Swimming Association World Championship held in Murmansk, Russia in March 2019.
- On 20 August 2019, he completed a 19.5 km crossing of the Tsugaru Channel from Honshu to Hokkaido in northern Japan in 9 hours 45 minutes.
- He finished 7th in the Ice Kilometer at the Ice Swimming Volendam event on 18-19 January 2020 in zwembad De Waterdam Edam/Volendam, Netherlands at the age of 53.
