Negative split

verb, adjective - Negative split is the act of swimming (or running or cycling) the second half of a race, swim or event faster than the first half. Negative splitting takes discipline and practice to conserve energy and curb enthusiasm in the first half.
Usage
- The elite men in the Olympic Marathon Swimming 10 km usually negative split their race, swimming the last 5 km much faster than the first.
- She executed her negative-split strategy to perfection when she came back to win the race.
