Reef and Run

2014 Reef and Run summer ocean swimming series on East Beach in Santa Barbara, California

Reef & Run is the premier weekly ocean swim race series on East Beach on the South Coast in Santa Barbara, California. The charity swim series starts every Thursday at 6:30 pm at the beautiful Cabrillo Bathhouse at East Beach from 5 June to 28 August. The races includes ocean swims of 500m, 1 km and 1 mile for US$15 per race. On select weeks we also feature a biathlon race and a season-ending Boat to Beach race. Live entertainment and a great atmosphere for athletes and families follows every race in the series.

Organization

Reef & Run is organized by Jane Cairns with the assistance of Rich Hanna.

Reef & Run is committed to supporting the next generation of ocean swimmers through its support of the Santa Barbara Jr. Lifeguard program.

2020 Season

With the coronavirus pandemic, the traditional races were modified and renamed the Reef and Run Social Media Challenge.

• Santa Barbara Swim Club 500m swim with a separate starting point from other races to make it easier and less intimidating for new swimmers
• Santa Barbara Triathlon 1k swim
• Elite Performance 1 mile swim
• JFM Web Design Biathlon, a 1 km swim and beach run (held on select weeks only)

Cost

A season pass will cost US$150 or US$15 per race.

Cabrillo Bathhouse - 1118 East Cabrillo Blvd. (oceanside).

Dates

• 2014: Every Thursday beginning 5 June and ending 28 August with registration at 5:30 pm with races starting at 6:30 pm.
• 2015: Every Thursday evening from 4 June to 27 August.
• 2016: Every Thursday evening from 9 June to 1 September
