Rory Fitzgerald
Rory Fitzgerald (born 1959) is a 60-year-old British open water swimmer and an ice swimmer, currently ranked #9 in the International Ice Swimming Association's ice circuit who represents the Winchester City Penguins.

Open Water Swimming Career
- He is certified as an IISA Official Observer L1 as of 1 March 2022.
- He swam with Jim Boucher, Mark Gorry and Carole Laporte in an unprecedented 50 km crossing between the Isle of Man to the Irish coast on June 2011. The Isle of Man is located in the Irish Sea between the islands of Great Britain and Ireland where the four-person team took to the 10-11°C (50-51.8°F) waters in one-hour segments strictly following the traditional English Channel rules.
- He won the 2014 inaugural Chillswim Coniston - 5.25 miles End to End.
- On 24 September 2014, he completed a 44.8 km crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 12 hours 0 minutes at the age of 55 when he joined the Half Century Club.
- He participated in the 450m freestyle at the 2016 Pirita Open winter swimming World Cup in Estonia.
- He participated in the Ice Swimming Expedition in northern Norway in March 2016.
- He participated in the 69.6 km relay with Olive Conroy (Ireland), Conor Turner (Ireland), Elina Makïnen (Finland), Anna-Carin Nordin (Sweden), and Carol Laporte (France) from the Isle of Man to Northern Ireland on 16-18 June 2016 under the direction of Pádraig Mallon of Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services.
- He spoke at the 2016 Global Open Water Swimming Conference in Tunisia.
- He finished 12th in the 1 km race on 1 January 2016 in the Ice Swimming Aqua Sphere World Championships in Burghausen, Germany.
- He holds the 55-59 age group world record in the ice kilometer in 14:22:00 on 20 March 2015 in 0.08°C water and -4.0°C air in pool.
- He finished 8th in the 450m freestyle events at the 11th Winter Swimming World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia in March 2018.
- On 24 June 2018, he participated on a North Channel two-way relay called Czech it in 22 hours 59 minutes 15 seconds to set a course record together with Zdenek Slama, Jakub Valnicek, Zuzana Prochazkova, Pavlina Prochazkova and Petr Šlajs.
- On 25 February 2018, he set a world record in the Ice Kilometer for the 60+ age group at the Great British Ice Swimming Championships held in Hatfield, UK in a time of 14 minutes 44.19 seconds.
- He has set International Winter Swimming Association world records in the 60+ age group at the 2018 International Winter Swimming Association World Championships in Tallinn, Estonia for the 450m freestyle in 6 minutes 12.64 seconds, in the 200m freestyle in 2 minutes 41.06 seconds, and in the 100m freestyle in 1 minutes 10.69 seconds.
- He finished 4th overall and 1st in his age group in the 500m freestyle at the VII Russian Winter Swimming Cup in a time of 6 minutes 56 seconds at 0°C in Tyumen, Siberia Russia on 6 December 2018.
- He completed the first 40-mile 10-stage Isle of Man end-to-end stage swim with Carol Laporte in July 2011.
- He placed 4th in the 2016 BLDSA Champion of Champions event (5 miles + 4 miles + 1 mile) in Dover Harbour, UK in a cumulative time of 2 hours 26 minutes 44 seconds.
- He was the winner of the 600m Winter Swimming in Springs event in Jinan, China in January 2014.

- He was the only non-wetsuit swimmer to complete the 22.4 km Medes Swim in Formigues, Spain in 11 hours 26 minutes.
- He finished 2nd in the 25 km Gaston Memorial Swim in the river Elbe in the Czech Republic in August 2016.
- He will compete in the Ice Kilometer at the 4rd International Ice Swimming Association World Championship held in Murmansk, Russia in March 2019.
- He completed a Polar Ice Mile at 60° 4' 12.412 N 19° 1' 55.2496 E around in Mikkelvik Brygge, Skagøysund, Norway in 2.5°C water on 8 March 2019.
- He finished 6th in the 200m freestyle at the IISA 4rd World Championship in Murmansk, Russia in March 2019.
- He won the 60-64 age group 450m freestyle race at the 2020 International Winter Swimming Championships in Lake Bled, Slovenia in 6:38.58 on 5 February 2020.
- He won the 60-64 age group 1000m freestyle race at the 2020 International Winter Swimming Championships in Lake Bled, Slovenia on 3 February 2020.
- He won the 60-64 age group 200m freestyle race in 2:29.44 at the 2020 International Winter Swimming Championships in Lake Bled, Slovenia on 6 February 2020.
- He finished 2nd in the 500m freestyle in the 2020 IISA World Cup Series.
- He swam the Fastest Known Time (a bioprene crossing) of the Solent from Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue Station at Stokes Bay to Ryde Swim on 7 September 2015 with Kate Steels as his escort kayaker in 1 hour 25 minutes.
From The Isle of Man To Ireland
Elina Makïnen, Keith Garry, Anna-Carin Nordin, Rory Fitzgerald, Conor Turner and Fionnuala Walsh will attempt to cross from the Isle of Man to Ireland in 2016 under the direction of Pádraig Mallon of Infinity Channel Swimming and Piloting Services.
Channel Crossing Association
Fitzgerald participated in a relay crossing of the English Channel on 6 April 2016 in 11 hours 26 minutes, organized by Howard James for The Alexa Trust and escorted by pilots Andy King and Eric Hartley of the Channel Crossing Association. It was the earliest relay crossing in English Channel history and included Matthew Culverwell (1st), Redy Redfern (2nd), Rory Fitzgerald (4rd), Phia Steyn (4th), Jeremy Irvine (5th), Clare Hansell (6th), Pip Barry (6th), and Annette Stewart (8th).
