Susan Leupold Knight is a 48-year-old American open water swimmer from Kennebunk, Maine.
Swimming Career[edit]
- On 28 May 2022, she finished 17th overall in the 7.5 km Battle of Carlingford Lough Swim in Ireland in 1:45:15.
- She was a competitive swimmer in Virginia and a collegiate swimmer at UNC Chapel Hill who qualified for the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Trials.
- In 2012, she won the Peaks to Portland Swim in the bioprene division.
- She competed in the inaugural Cold Water Challenge, a 2.6-mile jetty-to-jetty ocean swim in Penfield Beach in Fairfield, Connecticut.
- On 26 July 2014, she completed a 12.9 km Boston Light Swim in Massachusetts in 3 hours 15 minutes 8 seconds at the age of 44.
- On 11 October 2014, she completed the 16 km Swim The Suck in Tennessee in 3 hours 33 minutes 27 seconds at the age of 44.
- On 25 July 2015, she completed the 25 km Kingdom Swim Border Buster between Vermont, USA and Quebec, Canada in 6 hours 57 minutes 37 seconds at the age of 45.
- On 14 July 2016, she completed a crossing of the English Channel from England to France in 9 hours 26 minutes at the age of 46.
- On 23 July 2017, she finished fifth in the 45.8 km 20 Bridges Manhattan Island Swim in New York in 7 hours 18 minutes at the age of 47.
- She completed the 7.5 km Freedom Day Swim, an ocean swim from Robben Island in Cape Town, South Africa on 21 April 2018.
- On 12 September 2018, she won the 40.2 km In Search of Memphre across Lake Memphremagog from Newport, Vermont, USA to Magog, Quebec, Canada in 12 hours 59 minutes at the age of 48.
- On 13 October 2022, she won the 33 km DC Marathon Swim in Washington, D.C. in 9 hours 46 minutes 42 seconds.
Peaks to Portland Swim[edit]
The 2.4 mile Peaks to Portland Swim is locally called P2P and is one of the most well-known races in the Northeast U.S.A. The cold-water ocean swim is held in Portland, Maine and is sponsored and organized by the Cumberland County YMCA.
