noun - The World Open Water Swimming Federation or WOWSF was established in 2024 by Steven Munatones and Antonio Argüelles to provide a plethora of information to support the global growth and promotion of all forms of open water swimming and to recognize solo extreme swims and relays.

Origins
- Its initial platform was the World Open Water Swimming Association or WOWSA.
- It was inspired by the World Professional Marathon Swimming Federation (WPMSF) that promoted, educated, and furthered the interests of the sport of open water swimming and professional marathon swimming that was founded in 1963 and succeeded by the International Marathon Swimming Association in the late 1980's.
