Öland

Öland (sometimes written Øland in other Scandinavian languages, and often Oland internationally) is the second largest Swedish island and the smallest of the traditional provinces of Sweden. Öland has an area of 1,342 square km and is located in the Baltic Sea just off the coast of Småland. It is separated from the mainland by the Kalmar Strait and connected to it by the 6 km Öland Bridge which opened on 30 September 1972.
Open Water Swimming
- Anna-Carin Nordin completed an unprecedented 333 km 22-day stage swim around Öland between 28 July and 18 August 2020 that took 117 hours 5 minutes over 32 stages.
- Karolina Szczepaniak attempted a 172 km swim across the Baltic Sea from Poland to Öland in a charity swim to raise money for prosthetics for children without arms, but her attempt was aborted after 60 hours and 140 km.
