Abi Liu

Abi Liu is an American swimming coach, born in China.

She serves as the Head Coach of the Bellevue Swim Club since 2021.
Her life story embodies resilience, dedication, and the pursuit of dreams.
She started swimming competitively at 8 in China and entered the rigorous national training system at 13, becoming the youngest member of the Chinese National Team. Her talent shone, as she set national records, won the National Championships multiple times, and secured a silver medal at the Asian Games in 1994.
After retiring from competition, she transitioned into coaching, her passion for swimming finding new expression.
In 1999, she launched her coaching career nurturing swimmers who went on to achieve national recognition.
She was named as a National Team coach for Team USA in 2023 at the 2023 World Junior Championships and the 2024 World Championships.
In 2024, Abi became the first woman of color to be on the coaching staff at the World Championships for Team USA.
On 4 September 2024, she spoke at the ASCA World Clinic Women's Symposium together with Jennifer LaMont, Ellen Johnston, Emily Melina, Micha Shaw, and Carol Capitani.
